Complex control systems

One of the peculiarities of the current stage of power industry development is that power systems are making significant investments in the reconstruction of production facilities. But replacement, repair, or reconstruction of the primary process equipment is impossible without modernization of control systems for this equipment.

INTENGIN LLC has ten years of experience implementing modern power equipment frequency and power control systems. At our facilities, we have implemented all requirements of Ukrainian standards – from participation in general primary frequency regulation to compliance with the involvement requirements in normalized primary (RPM) and automatic secondary frequency and power regulation.

During this time, the systems of automatic frequency and power control have been implemented by INTENGIN at 14 sites, including power units 160, 200, 300 MW, running on different fuel types, including pulverized coal.

Often, these systems were implemented with the introduction of modern electro-hydraulic control systems for steam turbines.

In several cases, introducing the power control system was not accompanied by creating a modern PCS at the power unit.

The traditional analog system, part of the existing automated process control system, is supplemented by a modern digital automatic frequency and power control system. In addition, the leading regulators of the boiler are transferred to digital technology.

Imbalances by power, steam pressure, and turbine position valve, are supplemented by signals of dynamic transducers. They are combined in the PSN imbalance signals transducer in the required way, forming current imbalance signals for boiler and turbine controls, depending on the unit operation mode and technological limitations. In typical power control modes of the power unit, the unbalance of the turbine regulator is close to the power unbalance (taking into account the frequency corrector signal), and the unbalance of the boiler regulator is close to the unbalance of the fresh steam pressure.

The turbine governor influences the turbine control valves, and the PFC generates a task for the leading regulators of the boiler.

According to many years of positive experience accumulated by INTENGIN, the minimum required volume of complex I&C reconstruction to solve these problems, in addition to the already mentioned digital control system of the unit, should include digital leading boiler regulators: fuel, supply, draft, and blast, the main temperatures in the boiler path, level in the drum (at drum boilers), as well as the high-speed reduction unit. The high-speed reduction unit regulator does not participate in the normal regulation of the unit capacity but may be required at significant unloading of the unit due to emergency frequency rise in the power system.

Such reconstruction was successfully carried out by INTENGIN in 2013, for example, at the pulverized coal power unit of Starobeshevo TPP st. 13 and the power unit of st. 12 of the same plant in 2014.
